DIY: How to build A High Powered Burning Laser pointer
November 20, 2008 - 9:30 am

Don't want to build one? Buy a 200mW one for $44 here http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11315~r.93098389 ***UPDATE*** If you really want to build a laser, please don't use this tutorial. I made this video when I was younger and I didn't know much about lasers. I will have a much better and easier tutorial up in a month or so if you can wait. Until then check out laserpointerforums.com for some great tips/tutorials on building lasers. If you are going to use this tutorial anyway, the circuit used in this video is a BARE MINIMUM. Although the one I made in this video still works fine to this day, you will probably want to add a small capacitor (anything over 10v 16uf is fine)in parallel with the diode to even out any voltage spikes from the battery. To build a well regulated circuit check out www.laserpointerforums.com for some great, easy to build, current and voltage regulated circuits for lasers. One thing to note is the prices of the diodes have jumped from $13 to $19.50 but you can buy the diodes off of sales.stonetek.org If you need more help you can find me and a bunch of other people that can help you on Laser Pointer Forums and Spectraforums! http://www.laserpointerforums.com http://www.spectraforum.com In this video I show you how to build a homemade high powered burning laser. Parts: You can get 100ohm potentiometers off ebay for pretty cheap You can get you switch and battery holders at any radioshack You can get your laser diodes at laserpointerforums.com for less than half of the price of pulling them from a DVD burner (and a heck of a lot easier) You can get AixiZ modules from Ebay Seller aixiz_lasers A few tips -DO NOT LET ANYTHING SHORT! -When you have turned the pot so the brightness turns high, don't even think about turning it more to make it more powerful. If you do that the power will go from 100mW+ to .1mW and your diode will be screwed -buy more than one diode cause they can break by simply touching them sometimes, too much current to the diode or a ton of other things so you will be safe buying more, and if you have extras build more modules and sell them to your friends for even more fun! (go ahead and charge $100 for them so you can be rich) -Buy goggles for these things! Goggles cost around $40 and are easily worth it, your eyes are worth more than $40 and if you get hit in the eye by this thing without goggles on, you're screwed.

The fastest human powered bicycle
November 20, 2008 - 9:30 am

The fastest human powered bike world record was set in Oct, 2002 at 81 mph (130km/h) by Sam Whittingham from Canada. Since the record was set, it is still remains unbroken. Sam owns a custom bike shop in: http://www.fortebikes.com/ The bike was designed and built by Georgi Georgiev (Varna Team). http://www.varnahandcycles.com For detail of the record holders you can check out from this web site: http://www.wisil.recumbents.com/wisil/fastest_list.asp
RC Jet - Full 3D LAVI Fighter, Turbine Powered. Crazy!
November 20, 2008 - 9:30 am

If you're an RC fanatic, don't forget to subscribe, since I am regularly uploading great video's... This is a Full 3D flight. This exact aircraft is the Israeli LAVI, which was later copied by the Chinese and called the JC-10. There have been many opinions as to what this plane is, so I have now stated exactly what it is, so there can be no confusion. 200 Stars for holy crap, since it also has thrust vectoring! The R/C LAVI you see here is manufactured by JD Enterprises and the pilot modified the intake and added a red star to make it look like a J-10. http://www.cdmaximum.com

I forgot where I got this clip, but its someone's homemade go kart powered by a small jet engine. I want to build one! ***I DIDNT MAKE IT!!!*** Reply from Kev50027: "I originally posted this video on Alexis Park Inn by the way, I believe it is still up on their site. Also, my brother doesn't seem to mind that you posted it up here, but you can give him credit, his name is Tim and we live in Kentucky." Props to his bro!!

Supersonic Car 1,000mph Fastest Car Ever
November 20, 2008 - 9:30 am

The British team that claimed the land speed record in 1997, taking a car through the sound barrier for the first time, is planning to go even faster. RAF pilot Andy Green made history in 1997 when he drove the Thrust SSC jet-powered vehicle at 763mph (1,228km/h). Now he intends to get behind the wheel of a car that is capable of reaching 1,000mph (1,610km/h). Known as Bloodhound, the new car will be powered by a rocket bolted to a Eurofighter-Typhoon jet engine. The team-members have been working on the concept for the past 18 months and expect to be ready to make their new record attempt in 2011. Bloodhound project leader Richard Noble said, "This is one of the most exciting things you can do on God's Earth; and when you've the opportunity to do it really, really well, with the latest technology, you can't resist the challenge."The initial studies have illustrated just how grand a challenge it will be. The 12.8m-long, 6.4-tonne Bloodhound SSC (Super Sonic Car) will be expected to travel faster than a bullet fired from a handgun. It is 900mm-diameter wheels will spin so fast they will have to be made from a high-grade titanium to prevent them from flying apart. The car will accelerate from 0-1,050mph (1,690km/h) in just 40 seconds; and at its maximum velocity, the pressure of air bearing down on its carbon fibre and titanium bodywork will exceed 12 tonnes per square metre. 1. Titanium or composite wheels - rear wheels sit outside bodywork, front wheels are steerable to comply with land speed rules 2. Driver sits behind front wheels and in front of engine air intake duct 3. Carbon fibre and titanium bodywork for optimum aerodynamic performance, reaching top speed over 4.5 miles. Same distance required for stopping 4. Bloodhound powered by Eurofighter jet engine with hybrid rocket attached, enabling car to accelerate from 0-1,050mph in 40 seconds 5. Fins maintain stability and downforce to keep car on the ground 6. Deployable aerostructures slow car at highest speeds; parachutes slow car at mid-speeds; finally, driver halts car with carbon fibre brakes

A new upload of this same video to see if the compression for UT today worked better to address audio sync opportunities is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEzdE9FEELE - thanks for stopping by :) November 7, 2008 President Elect Obama State of the Economy News Conference Part 3 - Q&A President-elect Obama met with economic experts Friday to discuss ways to stabilize the teetering U.S. economy that is expected to dominate his transition to power and early days in office. Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden convened a meeting of the transition economic advisory board, a high-powered collection of business, academic and government leaders. They included Lawrence Summers, who some have mentioned as a candidate for Treasury secretary, a post he held in the Clinton administration; Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, whose state has been hit hard by losses in the auto industry; Google CEO Eric Schmidt; and former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker. Other participants in the meeting included executives from Xerox Corp., Time Warner Inc.; and the Hyatt hotel company. Investor Warren Buffett was calling in by telephone.
