Nokia Morph Concept (short)
November 20, 2008 - 5:50 am

Morph is a concept demonstrating some of the possibilities nanotechnologies might enable in future communication devices. Morph can sense its environment, is energy harvesting and self cleaning . Morph is a flexible two-piece device that can adapt its shape to different use modes. Nanotechnology enables to have adaptive materials yet rigid forms on demand. It is also featured in the MoMA online exhibition "Design and the Elastic Mind". It has been a collaboration project of Nokia Research Center and Cambridge Nanoscience Center. 2008 SEMA: Chevrolet Camaro GS Racecar Concept
November 20, 2008 - 5:50 am

FOR MORE SEMA STORIES: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshows/sema/2008/chevroletcamarogsracecarconceptnews.html LAS VEGAS — The blue-and-yellow color scheme of Chevrolet's Camaro GS Racecar Concept evokes memories of the late Mark Donohue's championship-winning Camaro from the 1969 Trans Am series. The concept will be on display at the 2008 SEMA Show. The GS concept was developed by North Carolina-based Riley Technologies, working with GM's Performance Vehicle Operations. Riley already is developing a similar GS-class racing car for the 2009 Grand Am Koni Challenge series. The SEMA car boasts a reinforced chassis and a race-ready suspension, with a production LS3 V8 and a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox. Riley adds a C&R racing radiator, upgraded oil, trans and differential coolers and a 3-inch exhaust system with Coast Fab mufflers. To keep track weight down, the 2010 Camaro gets a carbon fiber hood, deck lid, doors and fenders. The Donohue-inspired deep-blue paint scheme is accented with yellow graphics, yellow racing wheels and a yellow cockpit.

Charmr: Adaptive Path diabetes management design concept
November 20, 2008 - 5:50 am

Blogger Amy Tenderich posted her "Open Letter to Steve Jobs" in April, pleading with the Apple CEO to apply some of that company's design expertise to improving the lives of the 20 million American diabetics who rely on technology to manage their condition every day. Amy asked for better products for diabetics, but we recognized that those products had to add up to an experience that would satisfy their emotional and psychological needs. So we set out to develop an experience design concept that addressed user behavior and psychology as well as current technological trends to project how insulin pumps and glucose meters might work five years from now.

"Way of the Future!" Nokia Nanotech "Morph" Concept Phone!!
November 20, 2008 - 5:50 am

Mobile phones are one of the most common pieces of technology used in our daily lives. Some reports put the number of cell phones sold in 2007 worldwide at 1.1 billion. With that number of cellular phones sold in 2007 alone, the market is very hot leading to expanded research and development of new handsets. Nokia and the University of Cambridge have teamed up on a new concept phone called the Morph described as a nanotechnology concept device. The concept design was launched at the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. According to Nokia, the Morph is a concept intended to demonstrate how devices in the future could be stretchable and flexible allowing the user to change the shape of their device on a whim. The nanotechnology construction is capable of providing users with flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. Nokia Chief Technology Officer Dr. Bob Iannucci said in a statement, "Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible." Nokia claims that certain elements of the Morph could be integrated into high-end handheld devices in the next seven years. Nokia adds that nanotechnology could at some point lead to low cost manufacturing solutions providing complex devices at low prices. University of Cambridge Professor Mark Welland added, "Developing the Morph concept with Nokia has provided us with a focus that is both artistically inspirational but, more importantly, sets the technology agenda for our joint nanoscience research that will stimulate our future work together." Nokia made headlines earlier this month when the German government demanded $60.5 million in a refund of subsidies it provided.
