Looks like he plays through a mix of amps, namely Marshall, Fender and Matchless(my fave!) - much like SRV did, he also mixed sounds to get his unique one. Sounds sweet!

No one can match up for Gary's feel, touch and tone! Godlike, he proves again and again that he is untouchable! 5 stars!

While I am on my soapbox, let me also say this: Lionel Ritchie may have written pretty, popular songs, but, by God, Gary Moore performs this with more soul and emotion than I ever heard out of watered-down pop-for-the-masses. Plus, the chord progression in the verses are different from "Hello"; Only the melody lines bear any resemblance at all. And as for the guys from Germany; Pul-leeeze. Who ripped who off? Maybe we all should pay Robert Johnson some money, too. It's the blues. Peace:-)

yes, there is a similarity. However, Gary does not play this backing (or "fill") line every time: See, for example, the version that is posted by UndeadKuntiz; Moore makes no reference to this whatsoever. Maybe he was playing at as a nod to Richie; maybe not. It is a rather basic blues progression. It is not a ripoff. Peace:-)
