you know that may be true and that most of his songs sound the same almost but his charts are fun to play i love get in line and count bubba/revenge so what if theres not much room all that matters is that one. it's fun to play and if you make it sound good.

BFJO has got to be one of the cutest names for an orchestra ever. xD
For high schoolers they're amazing. I don't remember my school band playing nearly as well as that T_T

Man, I'd love to know where you're coming from. Goodwin is one of the best big band arrangers alive today, whether he's your preference or not. As for commercialism, I disagree. There's a difference between "selling out" and "buying in". Ya gotta pay the bills somehow, and if that means writing a couple cheesy charts here and there, what's wrong with that? He's doing TREMENDOUS things for big band music in terms of education.

Who cares how well you stack up against another high school? Put simply, Gordon Goodwin's Band beat your band in all categories. Go practice.

I think Gordon Goodwin has a great band, but the music is so commercialized it's ridiculous. Every song sounds like something out of a cartoon. I wish they played more colorful music. Good big band is stuff like the Dave Holland Big Band, some of Buddy Rich's stuff, and even Jaco's Big Band. Mingus had some good stuff too.
They did a pretty good job of performing this, but with Goodwin tunes, it is hard to show skill, as there isn't much room for it in the arrangements.

I thought the solo was pretty bad, sounded like a classical musician trying to play jazz.

Our high school played this a couple years ago. Their trumpets(as a section beat us) our lead was amazing though. Our t-bone section wasnt that good either. But our saxes were literally amazing! They can compete with our school. In solos, i think we beat them, but they beat us as a band.

I don't know if anybody else noticed, but the break lick during the tenor solo was taken directly from the first lick in Sister Sadie.
