http://www.petitiononline.com/GFRMDM/petition.html This is a clip from the legendary Shea Stadium Concert that broke The Beatles ticket sales record. A record that still stands today (37 years later). I'm proud to say this video is in the permanent archives of Shea Stadium & The N.Y. Mets. Yes, this is the real deal, the Grand Funk Railroad we all love at the peak of their great career. Grand Funk Railroad is America's Band. This is a historic concert that folks still rave about. If you were there, feel lucky, because you were a part of history. This is considered by many to be one of the greatest concerts in the short history of "Hard Rock/Metal". Grand Funk Railroad was truly a "Performance Vehicle". It is amazing that this record has stood this long, a testament to how great & influincial this band was in the early 1970's. Check out the link below to see what Mark Farner has to say today about this historic performance. Grand Funk Railroad ruled the world from '69-'76 becoming the first band to earn 10 consecutive platinum albums! Some call it "Industrial Rock". You'll see no lazers or pyro here, just some of the greatest music ever performed live. Shea Stadium suffered structural damage after this show. In fact, the concert was almost stopped because Shea Stadium was oscillating from the excited crowd. Click on the link below & sign the online petition to induct Mark Farner & GFRxR into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame now! http://www.petitiononline.com/GFRMDM/petition.html Everyone go here for Mark Farner's interview about this show: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article_entertainment.jsp?ymd=20080527&content_id=2779701&vkey=entertainment&fext=.jsp Everybody, listen to me, And return me, my ship. Im your captain, Im your captain, Although Im feeling mighty sick. Ive been lost now, days uncounted, And its months since Ive seen home. Can you hear me, can you hear me, Or am I all alone. If you return me, to my home port, I will kiss you mother earth. Take me back now, take me back now, To the port of my birth. Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming, To take my ship away from me? Youd better think about it, I just cant live without it. So, please dont take my ship from me. Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I can feel the hand, of a stranger, And its tightening, around my throat. Heaven help me, heaven help me, Take this stranger from my boat. Im your captain, Im your captain, Although Im feeling mighty sick. Everybody, listen to me, And return me, my ship. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Ohhhh ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Repeated to fade

  2. Kristine Says:
I love seeing videos of the Vietnam war with old songs dubbed over them, this time was Epic WIN!
  3. Ayashe Says:
Here's another. You'd be surprised about how many rock stars who sit in their rooms, listening to, say, Beethoven, or, say, Mahler.
  4. Onyebuchi Says:
All I was trying to say was that classical music has an incredible soul that should not be missed out on. Just trying to goad people into giving it a try. It takes patience. But yeah, Funk's got lots of rock n roll soul. They should be in the rock n roll hall of fame.
  5. Chess Says:
How you doing, xcheario978x? You like Grand Funk, too? I love them. My little girl, too. But even if you don't, I can still respect your taste for something else different. Hey, come on, shake my hand and be a man.

    correction - HD80EVO
  11. Darah Says:
Great video! You're right, HD8EVO, GFR were as hard rock as anything out there. The abomination that was Tull winning the 1st Grammy for metal seems to have started a wave of metalhead, genre-snob "That's not metal" inspections which, for some reason, Black Sabbath is the only band from the late 60s/early 70s who is allowed to pass. Aside from jazz, whenever possible, the American artist (GFR, MC5, Blue Cheer, etc.) is denied credit for being the innovator. GFR RULES!
  12. Wilona Says:
True top band in the country by New York Daily News Nationwide Readers' Poll for 1971 but DO YAH THINK the immense billboard over Time Square and New York Daily news being a NY paper may have had a bit of influence? Now relative obscurity. I loved GFR, my #1 fave in '71.
  13. WAREINE Says:
Too much Acid, check your facts. Grand Funk Railroad was a very diverse band. Their first 3 albums were as hard rock as anything out there. Check out Grand Funk Railroad-Hardrock/Heavy Metal posted by PackedFunk. It sets the record straight. You can apologize later.
  14. Dell Says:
this is not even close too hard rock and metal. its amazing but its not hard rock or metal check your facts..
  15. Nikko Says:

  19. Bryanna Says:
This is how it was. The New York Daily News Nationwide Readers' Poll for 1971. Tens of thousands of votes were cast from every state in the nation. When the final score was tallied, Grand Funk Railroad had garnered a whopping 75% of the total vote as "Best Rock Group In The U.S." Left to split up the remaining 25% were: 2. Creedence Clearwater, 3. Jackson Five, 4. Led Zeppelin, 5. Three Dog Night, 6. The Who, 7. Sly, 8. Santana, 9. Chicago, and 10. Ten Years After!
  20. Seana Says:
Thw Jackson Five were really a motown band.I would say in 1971 Led Zepplin ruled and then The Who and Grand Funk 3rd. Led Zepplin 2 was the first Album I bought. I love Grand Grand Funk but I liked songs on earlier Albums and songs not written by them like Inside Looking Out and what Mark Farner calls our generations national athem Gimme Shelter love their version.
  21. Ioseph Says:
vinnynumbnuts is a fag who listens to journey or bon jovi and not cool american rock.
  22. Dunton Says:
    zzz...
  23. Norville Says:
Love the thumbs down. I find more truth there and especially when I click on the word, "Show" to the right of the commentator's name. But they're not always right at times.
  24. Thaw Says:
    BOC 1st.
  25. MIMIS Says:
I bet the Pie blew them off the stage. Long live Marriott!!
