    C'est une très belle cover!!!!!
  2. Jaecar Says:
Gainsbourg was very keen with double meaning...son for sound and for wax, weren't the first records made of wax ?
  3. NOLA Says:
Then what do French call a doll with sound?
  4. Leverett Says:
No it's just an "doll of bran"... Lyrics are quite stupid (I'm french, so... ;) ) and I can't afford that Gainsbourg wanted to play with the word "son", it has been written for France Gall you know, and her voice is not sound but noise...
  5. Gildas Says:
Damn, replied from account. Ach weel.
  6. TARAN Says:
I doubt it, listen to the lyrics. (I'm a doll of wax, a doll of sound, my heart is engraved into my songs) It was Serge Gainsbourg who wrote it,who was pretty fond of his double meanings. Despite "poupee de son" normally meaning doll of bran or woodshavings (how the dolls were manufactured), for this song there is the obvious connotation of Doll of Sound, like those pull string dolls.
  7. Linsey Says:
"son" in this case means "bran" and not "sound".
  8. Richman Says:
This song and les sucettes were both playing on her naivety, though this one is way more subtle. Though the song is about a "songdoll" it's kinda a dig at how teenagers look to their teen idols to tell them about emotions, but that they've never felt them themselves. It's also saying France was a doll that was controlled by the music industry, or Serge.
  9. Dainan Says:
There's a studio version on a split vinyl they did with LCD soundsytem, though there's a few live versions on the hype machine.
  10. Aescwine Says:
    niCE VERSION ,MUY BUENA
  11. GRIMM Says:
doll of bran because they used to make dolls by fitting them with the cereal bran.
  12. NINA Says:
Hurricane 2007 they were great! :)
  13. Quinton Says:
Theres's lots of better versions of this one out - so if you can't do it - better let it be!
  14. SEDGELEY Says:
    doll of wax?
  15. Atelic Says:
Belle and Sebastian l'a fait y'a 8ans... on peut s'acheter les disques dans des pochettes en cartons c'est pas grave... France Gall 1965...
  16. Aubrie Says:
    I can't bear back vocals!
  17. PRIDWYN Says:
FUCK OFF BELLE & SEBASTIAN! Arcade Fire is much better...
  18. HEBE Says:
    WATCH CFR/NAU
  19. JAMIL Says:
A mon avis, pas mal, j'ai entendu pire de temps en temps, mais généralement, j'l'aime point!! Ian, d'Angleterre xxx
  20. Logistilla Says:
I would acuse this group of making this lame version of original POUPEE DE CIRE on purpose to insult french and put them in jail for disturbance.
  21. ALASTAIR Says:
when i saw them at the hollywood bowl, i bought a 45 record with one side having this cover of the song, and the other has an LCD Soundsystem cover of "no love lost" from Joy Division (AMAZING COVER). five dollars well spent :)
  22. Saunderson Says:
very good :P i love everything this band does
  23. Fie Says:
The girl from Belle and Sebastian had horrrrendous pronunciation... Even for a Scottish Anglophone it was pretty bad.
  24. GALLOWAY Says:
belle & sebastian covered this before them and better!!
  25. Chayce Says:
